Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific points on the skin’s surface. Traditional Chinese acupuncture was developed thousands of years ago. A system of treatment developed, based on the concept of restoring channels of energy known as Qi. Within the scope of physiotherapy acupuncture is supported by clinical and research evidence showing that insertion of needles promotes release of the body’s pain relieving chemicals.

Physiotherapists who have undertaken additional training in acupuncture may suggest it as part of your treatment at Warwick Physio & Rehab. Where appropriate it can assist in the management of pain, enabling the patient to rehabilitate more effectively. We may choose to insert needles along points along the channels described or to use needle insertion to release specific points of tension in a muscle, followed by stretches and exercises to restore normal patterns of movement.

More information is available from the practice if this type of treatment is suggested as suitable for your condition.
